Denmark let slip the chance to strengthen their position at the top of FIFA World Cup qualifying Group 1 as Erjon Bogdani earned Albania a draw in Tirana.

Winning positionPortugal's 1-0 win over Hungary, who started the day in second, may have helped Denmark's cause, but with Sweden beating Malta, Denmark's lead at the top of the section is now down to just three points with a meeting with their second-placed Scandinavian rivals to come next month. Things started well enough for Denmark who went ahead on 41 minutes when Nicklas Bendtner headed over inexperienced goalkeeper Samir Ujkani after a misunderstanding in defence following a long ball forward.

Albania found their way back into the tie, however, and five minutes after the break. Hamdi Salihi guided Armend Dallku's cross toward Bogdani, who scored his 12th international goal from close range. Jesper Grønkjær and Jon Dahl Tomasson kept Josip Kuže's Albania busy as the match wore on, but their defence held firm.
